Film career
After her Miss India win in 1984 she made her acting debut in Sultanat in 1986. Her breakthrough came with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988, for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.
Her notable films in the 1990s include Lootere, Aaina and Darr (1993), Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), Deewana Mastana (1997), Yes Boss (1997) and Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi (1997). She won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke in 1993. In the 2000s she appeared in Punjabi and Hindi films, including 3 Deewarein (2003) and My Brother Nikhil (2005), and in 2014 in Gulaab Gang.
Business and ownership
In 2000 she co-founded the production company Dreamz Unlimited with Shah Rukh Khan and Aziz Mirza. In 2008 she became a co-owner, with Jay Mehta and Shah Rukh Khan, of the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders, which won the IPL in 2012 and 2014.
