He was vice-captain of the side that won the 2024 T20 World Cup and has led India in T20Is on several occasions. Back spasms and a quadriceps strain kept him out of India’s white-ball series against Afghanistan and England in mid-2026, and further fitness setbacks kept him out of the West Indies series in September and October 2026.

Big-Match Moments
Pandya’s best performances tend to arrive when the stakes are highest. As captain of the new Gujarat Titans franchise in 2022, he took 3 for 17 and scored 34 in the final against Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad to win the title in the team’s debut season, and was named Player of the Match. At the 2022 T20 World Cup he took three wickets and then added 113 with Virat Kohli in the chase against Pakistan at the MCG.
His most famous over came in the 2024 T20 World Cup final in Barbados. After removing Heinrich Klaasen to halt South Africa’s charge, he was handed 16 runs to defend in the last over and struck with its first ball, David Miller caught by Suryakumar Yadav on the long-off boundary. He played a central role again as India retained the title in March 2026 and was named in the ICC Team of the Tournament.
